Daphne Guinness for Zoo Magazine

She's so insane, but no doubt a genius.

The shoot was done by photographer Bryan Adams. It's a little too edgy for my usual taste but this spread is amazing.

Lady of the weekend Tuesday

So obviously it's been a while since I've posted and I missed Saturday, the designated day for lady of the weekend. No worries, I will make up for it with this post and you will be gifted 2 ladies of the week. Happy Thanksgiving..

This post goes out to Victoria Beckham. I will keep my words minimal as to not take away from the beauty that is Posh, but c'mon. Who isn't drawn to Mrs. Beckham, women and men alike?

Her style is so sick and exactly how I would want my wife to dress. David is definitely a lucky man.

Her cars are just as sick as her style..

And what makes her even more amazing is that she was hired as Land Rover's creative design director to lend a hand in designing the interior on future special editions of Range Rovers. Her first project is the Range Rover Evoque.

Yes please.

Ralph Lauren Holiday

My favorite thing about the Ralph Lauren holiday collection is the amount of plaid, simply because he doesn't just stop with shirts, but rather he comes up with plaid everything, i.e. picture frames, iPad cases, bags, etc. I don't know where or how my love for plaid developed but it's definitely present.

[Again] I am in the process of unwinding after another stressful week with classes so I decided I would buy myself something nice, which happens far too often. After looking through the holiday collection I was hit with the idea of publishing a post on what I found.

Here on the west coast plaid is an effortless surfer look, which works great. I can't say that I haven't bought plaids from the likes of Quiksilver and Insight but there's definitely a difference in functionality when looking at something picked up at Becker and one from Ralph Lauren or J. Crew. The look achieved by the latter two brands is a more classic, casual get together look that's exactly what you need for a holiday themed party or a fall/winter dinner party. On cold nights, like those I am about to experience when I'm home, a flannel button-down is typically what I go for when I'm getting ready to meet up with my friends.

I feel as though I can form such an opinion of the superiority of RL or J. Crew over the more laid back brands simply because I own enough of both to know the difference. Nothing is better to me than lacing up my Red Wing boots (see "Eyecatchers Cont.."), throwing on a pair of J. Crew jeans, a nice plaid shirt and a peacoat for a dinner party or just going to hang out at a friend's house.

I never dig for compliments from people and I suggest every guy do the same. My big thing is that I wear things because I like them, not because I want others to notice. If they so happen to notice, it's out of your control (aka--nice work).  I always dress the part for where I am but I'm definitely not overdressed. People also make the assumption that I have taken hours to get ready when I legit put it all together within minutes. And this is how I've come full circle with this post. Plaids are my favorite in the winter because they're something to throw on and still stay warm without looking like you sacrificed necessary body heat in order to achieve a certain look.

Here are just a few things I found on the RL Holiday website:

I couldn't help but pick out a few accessories (I hate the lack of masculinity in that word) that carried out the plaid idea. Basically, you just can't go wrong with plaid (madras is obviously one of my go-to shirts in summer), especially in winter:

It's that time of year...

The Los Angeles Auto Show opened to the public today! Even if it seems as though I'm pretty excited about it, I was a little disappointed. As I browse the pages on Autoweek and other car news websites I tend to get pretty excited anytime an auto show takes place. I like to think I appreciate the automobile in what it's supposed to represent: beauty, self expression and a way to get people talking. Okay, so maybe that last one could just be a personal one, but really though. When you see a car that makes you think whether you like it or not is usually what I go for. Bright red Audi anyone?

With that being said, I didn't see much of that so far with the coverage of the LA show. Porsche Panameras, Infiniti QX56s, G WAGONS!, Chrysler Crossfires, etc. are some of my favorites that usually don't coincide with my peers.

Here are my favorites from the show:

And since I mentioned it:

Just doesn't get any better than that....

Ready for a break.

I wish I could say I've had my "nose in the books" these past few days that I haven't posted but that would be a lie. I have gotten to a point in the semester that I am so over school. I'm hoping that will pass once I've gone home for Thanksgiving break but if it doesn't, I guess I still have face the music.

Next to Halloween, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I come from a huge [extended] family and I have such an awesome time when all of us get together for the holidays. We [my brother, sister, mom, dad, 4 aunts, 4 uncles, 6 first cousins and 5 second cousins] spend the holiday at my Granny's (remember, I'm from the south) house and it's always a good time when we all get together. My siblings, first cousins and I are very close in age and we do nothing but sit around and laugh at everything going on in the house as well as in our lives.

I have come to realize that Thanksgiving is a holiday that gets better as one gets older. The idea behind it is for everyone to come together and be thankful for the blessings God has given each and every one of us...like you didn't already know that. Like maybe most of you, I always knew that but never really saw how it comes into play until basically last year. Now that the aforementioned cousins, siblings and I are all away at school, grad school and out in the working world it is tough for our schedules to match up just perfectly, thus a pretty significant amount of time goes by before we get to catch up.

Though I don't feel like this blog ALWAYS has to be about cars, girls, clothes, etc. I feel like this would be the time to tie this post in with others in some way.  I have kind of gotten a head start with my Christmas list (for myself) and I want to emphasize that I did not intentionally skip over Thanksgiving with the J Crew post.

With that being said, this one goes out to my family, as they've clearly been on my mind lately. I can't wait to see you all in such a short amount of time. Love you guys!

Lady of the Weekend Continued...

I know this is my second "continued..." post, but I don't want single posts that take up the entire page. Especially when talking about Lindsay, but I want to try with every lady of the week, I want to do a post on her cars.

She's had everything from a Mercedes SL65, which she wrecked at least 3 times, to a Porsche Cayman S, which also had the 911 turbo rims. So, on top of her fashion sense that makes her so sexy, what guy doesn't love a woman that has impeccable taste in fine automobiles as well?

Also, the court takes away your license after your 500th DUI? No problem, get a chauffeured matte black Rolls Royce Phantom. I like the way she thinks..

Lady of the Weekend

I figure since I find certain women in the entertainment and fashion industry to be so influential I'm going to do one post a week similar to that of my post about Daphne Guinness (see "The Gist of Things").

First and foremost, I have been approached by a few of my personal friends that read my blog with their concerns about my lack of a post about Lindsay Lohan. I know she's kind of a mess but if she's back to liking men, I feel it's my turn to have a shot with her (this is to put into perspective just how I feel about her).

But in all seriousness, no matter how good or bad her acting skills (or lack there of) may be, she easily has the most insane fashion sense of any woman out there. She always looks sexy, even with her eyes closed, mouth agate, passed out in the front seat of an Escalade. She's always pushing the boundaries in the fashion world, which sometimes has gotten her banned from designer's shows, but even that doesn't stop her from doing and wearing what she wants. And hey, her Ungaro collaboration might not have gone all that well, but 6126 is doing just fine. Nonetheless, she has crazy style and that wins a matching amount of respect in my eyes. She's on the fast track to a come back and I know it's going to happen. So, since she has no current work for me to admire (rehabs don't let you do photo shoots? that's weird...) I can only look back on what about her is sooo attractive.

Also, she's got legz fo' dayz and that's always amazing on a woman.

Fall/Winter J. Crew

I took some time off of homework/studying to try and keep these blog posts consistent. I want to make sure I stay on top of it so that I can make this a blog that I would want to read if it were someone else posting.

I just checked my email and on Tuesday I received an email notifying me about the J. Crew Holiday Sale...the only problem is, when I checked the sale items, I found only one thing to my liking. On the other hand, when checking their new arrivals I pulled a number of things that have definitely been forwarded to family members to keep in mind when buying my Christmas gifts this year.

Here are just a few:

Eyecatchers Cont..

I don't consider this to be a winter jacket, but Nautica says otherwise (Parka?). Another thing to know about my style is that I tend to gravitate toward nautical things, even if it is horizontal stripes.

I'm also not a huge shoe person, I just take the classics, i.e. boat shoes, loafers, Jack Parcells, etc., and run with it. But last Winter I came across the J. Crew exclusive Red Wing boots and have to say they are currently my favorite thing to wear during my Christmas breaks at home. I can also say they are the most difficult shoes I have worn around a city yet my 3 months in London, UK last spring semester also served as the best way to break them in.

Also, insane backpacks at Urban. I've wanted one for a while, but I can't choose which color.

Some eyecatchers

I had no intentions on spending my in-between class break to start choosing things for the cold weather when I return to Kentucky in roughly two weeks, but look what happened. As made blatantly obvious solely by the title of this blog, I have a very "preppy" style which stays pretty consistent. I just figured I would post a few things I found today just to give an idea of things I'll be posting.

Note: I do not, at this point in time, intend on posting any ideas I pull from the likes of YSL, D&G or D-Squared. This blog is about things (typically RL or J. Crew, or anything else classic) I want to own, am going to or already do own.

First on the list for Christmas break is this peacoat from the Ralph Lauren Holiday collection. But let's be real, I'd take it all.

A Look Back

Anyone who knows me would be the first to say that I can't have a blog without mentioning Edie Sedgwick. Of the few pictures there are to choose from of her this one is by far my favorite. Though it is a photo of her just after she was saved from her burning Hotel Chelsea room, I feel that it portrays a deeper meaning by me knowing so much about her. I adopted an intense obsession with the late heiress a few years ago and know everything there is to know about her (for the most part) and I can't help but think what would have happened if she had been born into the right time period. Her lifestyle, her clothing, her ideas on life and perception were so ahead of her time that it is a wonder she even lived to the age of 28.

Just a thought..

Keeping it going..

In other news, my UK wildcats did lose in a very close game against Miss. State, but we came out with a big W yesterday…huge for us UK fans. I find this whole west coast idea of football to still be a little confusing, football is a huge part of a southern guy’s fall season lifestyle, it sort of acts as a way of keeping busy until basketball season, at least it’s that way in Kentucky.

This reasoning behind that last sentence is kind of the foundation of this “blog”…keeping my “preppy” lifestyle from the south alive while still taking in this west coast “easiness”.
Although there is no distinction between east and west coast style when it comes to the admiration of an exotic car. I do want to make it clear that there are other aspects to these posts rather than fashion and Kentucky sports.

I would find it hard to believe that any male would not take notice of this beauty.

The Gist of Things

Though this is more geared towards men fashion and lifestyle, among other things, I find myself having trouble discriminating against the leaders of the industry as a whole. Daphne Guinness just recently caught my attention and I love to discover new artists of our generation. What she has done not only since the suicide of Alexander McQueen but throughout her years as an important figure in the expansion of designers who aren’t afraid to show their view of the world (i.e. Isabella Blow, Alexander McQueen) has been pretty insane.  Needless to say this photo of her in the Haiti Fashion for Relief show at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, in which she (among other models) paid their dues to the late McQueen, encompasses my idea of her and I’m still coming down from the high that is this amazing heiress.

That being said, this is kind of what’s been going through my head since discovering exactly who she was just a short time ago. I think for us guys to really understand just how fashion, men’s and women’s alike, is such an important aspect of one’s personality we must dig into the other side and see how even female-only designers impact how we get to express ourselves.

Just a first post..
